The Coodanup Girls Academy started at Coodanup College in 2017. Founded in 2004 by Olympian and champion basketballer Ricky Grace (AM, MEdL, BPolSc), Girls Academy is the leading provider of school-based programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls. Currently, there are Academies located nationally in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Queensland.
Girls Academy is a full-time program that runs on the College timetable and works within the school system. It is community-led and provides much needed mentoring support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls.
The program works on:
- Increasing attendance rates
- Improving school engagement and achievement
- Increasing Year 12 graduation rates
- Facilitating post-school education, training and employment.
